Bill Garrett et Sue Lothrop : "deux voix en parfaite harmonie", c'est ainsi qu'on ce duo montréalais. Un couple sur scène comme dans la vie, Bill et Sue se sont produits dans de nombreux folk clubs et festivals d'un océan à l'autre. Bill Garret est un des fondateurs de la maison de disques torontoise Borealis et a été réalisateur à la radio de la CBC pendant dix-huit ans. Sue Lothrop, native des Cantons de l'est, a fait partie de différents groupes folks et folk-rock avec lesquels elle a fait des tournées dans tout le Canada et aux États-Unis. Aujourd'hui, en plus des spectacles en duo avec Bill, elle fait de l'animation en musicothérapie auprès des aînés.

Benoit Bourque souligne cette année ses trente ans de vie professionnelle en tant que musicien traditionnel. Plusieurs groupes ont pu profiter de ses talents et de son indéniable charisme et depuis quelques mois, c'est au sein de la célèbre Bottine Souriante qu'il partage son amour de la musique traditionnelle québécoise à tous les publics.

Simon Gauthier : originaire de Sept-Iles et établi en Montérégie depuis quelques d'années, Simon est arrivé au conte comme on tombe amoureux, avec fougue et passion. Depuis plus de dix ans, il captive tous les publics par son imaginaire débridé, son énergie incandescente et sa sensibilité de poète. Simon est aussi lamiste, c'est-à-dire qu'il joue de la scie musicale. Pour ce concert maison, il s'exécutera à la scie musicale, en solo, en duo, en trio...


Antoine Pigeon-Bourque vient de terminer ses études au programme de musique du cégep St-Laurent, où il a étudié le tuba avec Robert Ellis et l'accordéon-piano avec George Camitsis. Il s'intéresse à plusieurs styles musicaux. Il exécutera, à l'accordéon, des pièces de Tony Murena, René Dupéré (Le cirque du soleil), Yan Tiersen (Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain), J. Ivanovici.

Celtic Connections Education Concerts

It’s sure to be an uproarious welcome back to Celtic Connections for Québec’s outstanding musical ambassadors, the unstoppable 10-piece party machine that is La Bottine Souriante, last seen at the festival back in 2004.

Formed in 1976 in the music-rich Francophone region of Lanaudière, La Bottine have earned their reputation as “the best band in the world” – according to US folk bible Dirty Linen – by cooking up traditional dance tunes and chorus songs with jazz, salsa and funk flavours, courtesy of a sizzling-hot brass section.

The concert will also feature songs and clarsach from Scottish duet The Duplets.

La Bottine Souriante with Julie Fowlis

Gaelic song phenomenon Julie Fowlis won yet more new fans in 2008 with her translated version of the Beatles’ Blackbird, as featured on November’s enhanced reissue of her award-winning second album Cuilidh. Recently named as the Scottish Executive’s inaugural Gaelic Ambassador of the Year, she appears with regular accompanists Éamon Doorley, Duncan Chisholm, Tony Byrne and Martin O’Neill.

Check the list of artists participating! Many talents such as Les Chauffeurs à Pieds, Lúnasa, Genticorum, Yves Lambert & The Bebert Orchestra, Le Vent du Nord, Tony McManus, and many more. I think the Quebecois presence will be well registered! And for those who don't know yet, Benoit Bourque will be there with La Bottine Souriante. By their list, you can see this is a very traditional event and will be a great festival!

That's right: Quebecois talent Benoit Bourque is the new member of the famous trad band La Bottine Souriante! The news will be officially announced soon, but I couldn't wait to share my excitement with you all!

Bourque will be sharing his talents on vocals, accordion, guigue, bones, etc, as a full time member of the group, while current member Pierre-Luc Dupuis moves on to new endenvours, not yet disclosed.

The last performance of Pierre-Luc with La Bottine Souriante will take place this Saturday at the Old Port in Montreal (QB) with Bourque's participation on bones and guigue.
